True Brands Nautilus Easy Lever Corkscrew
- Stainless steel & soft-touch plastic
- Easy-motion lever handle
- Includes foil cutter & spare worm
After finding this recommended on another site, I picked one up to replace my worn-out and not-as-good-as-it-used-to-be Rabbit. Immediately, I found it to be MUCH easier to use - far less effort, a far more natural alignment, and far greater bottle stability on the counter. No regrets whatsoever in changing from the rabbit. Plus, it kicks the cork off just as easily.
Others have noted that longer corks don't extract fully - this is correct, but it's such an inconsequential "negative" that I'd barely knock a half star off my rating over it.
And, the true kicker - I've had at least half a dozen friends ask me what it's called after using it, so they can get their own.
We got this wine bottle opener years ago. This has been a terrific, high quality opener. It still looks and works great after a lot of use! We ordered some for friends this year and everyone loved them.
So a corkscrew is not exactly rocket-science, but this one is really cool. In one easy motion the corkscrew is plunged into the cork, lift up on the lever and the cork is out, and after removing this device from the bottle, another plunge with the handle and the cork is ejected! Way cool!!
This is an innovative opener that functions well ... except that one of the most critical parts (which keeps the smaller handle attached) is made of plastic composite. It can break easily, rendering the opener useless.
UPDATE: Although past the seller warranty, the manufacturer told me there had been a batch of products and sent me a replacement with no hassle whatsoever. I expect this one to work well.
This is my second wine opener like this in the past ten years. During that time I,ve never had a issue when opening a bottle. I get mad at myself when when I leave at home when going to the beach. I hate standard core screws. You won't ever want to go back after using this.
